FIFTEEN days since the May 9 polls, 10 percent of Electoral Board (EB) members have yet to claim their honoraria from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

In a press briefing yesterday, Comelec Deputy Executive Director for Operations (DEDO) Teopisto Elnas said the funds are with Election Officers.

“If you have the time, please claim your honoraria,” he told teachers who served as EB members and other poll workers.

He said that while they don’t have a deadline for releasing the honoraria, the Comelec has 15 days, under the law, to pay the honoraria.

Elnas, however, said the honoraria does not include the P2,000 additional pay approved by the Comelec en banc.

“As for the additional honoraria, we are still looking at the details, like how many are entitled and from which areas will we give additional honoraria,” said Elnas.

A total of 647,812 teaching and non-teaching staff from the Department of Education served as poll workers last May 9.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 10727, EB chairpersons will get P7,000; EB members P6,000; DepEd Supervisor Official P5,000; and Support Staff P3,000.
