TEN policemen, including four officers, have been dismissed from the service due to administrative cases arising from their involvement in the unlawful arrest of four Chinese in Parañaque City last September.
The 10 were led by Lt. Col. Jolet Guevara; Majors Jason Quijana and John Patrick Magsalos; and Capt. Sherwin Limbauan, all assigned with the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
Also dismissed were Executive Master Sergeant Arsenio Valle; Staff Sergeants Roy Pioquinto, Mark Democrito, and Danilo Desder Jr, and Christina Corpuz; and Corporal Rexes Claveria, also of the NCRPO.
They were ordered dismissed by NCRPO chief Maj. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. after they were found guilty of administrative charges in connection with the unlawful arrest of the four Chinese.
They were found liable for grave misconduct, grave irregularity in the performance of duty, grave neglect of duty, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, less grave misconduct and less grave neglect of duty.
The case is being investigated by the House of Representatives.
Former Southern Police District (SPD) chief Brig. Gen. Rhoderick Mariano and former SPD comptroller Col. Charlie Cabradilla were recently cited in contempt and ordered detained for 30 days by the House for supposedly lying during the investigation.
The dismissed policemen were reportedly involved in the illegal arrest, arbitrary detention and robbery of four Chinese women in September last year.
Police earlier claimed the Chinese women were rescued from prostitution but were later released after they were able to present passports and other legal documents.
Antipolo Rep. Romeo Acop said the Chinese women were supposedly “detained for several hours without being informed of their alleged offense and Miranda rights and were deprived of contact with their legal representation.”
Acop said the victims were transferred to the SPD District Special Operations Unit in Taguig City where P2 million each was demanded in exchange for their release.
