THE De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde is introducing the Benildean Trailblazing Habits (BeTH), a campaign comprises of a series of comedic short videos which portray the happenings on and off camera during online classes, meetings, and webinars.

The brainchild of Vice Chancellor for Academics (VCA) Geronio Ulayao, the initiative presents the reality of online sessions through a set of Zoomandments or Zoom do’s and don’ts, written by Mito Tubilleja, a faculty of the Multimedia Arts Program.

The creative skits tackle the various challenges and scenarios experienced by both students and educators from different schools and programs.

It reminds the community to always stage their area for on-cam sessions and to be mindful of the background noise, reiterates the importance of proper attire, and tackles respect during sessions — to determine the agenda of the meeting, to stay focused and to listen attentively, and only speak when called or recognized.

BeTH presents how the community worked hand-in-hand in this transition as exemplified from Benilde Online Learning Term to the opening of the full online terms of Academic Year 2020 to 2021.

The VCA Project BeTH team was comprised of Laboratory Center Director and Multimedia Arts Program educator Lanie Rallos as the video producer and editor, School of Design and Arts – Arts and Culture OIC Associate Dean Magda de Leon as the production manager for the Benilde Arts and Culture Cluster, Fashion Design and Merchandising Program Chairperson Christine Cheryl Benet as the production manager for the Environment Studies Cluster, and Tubilleja as the production manager for the New Media Cluster.

Members of the Mark of Designers Alliance, the student organization of the Fashion Design and Merchandising Program, participated in the videos to represent the student body.

“We were initially testing the water on the reception and thankfully, it became a positive breather for everyone,” Benet shared. “Personally, BeTH created this atmosphere of normalcy despite the pandemic — that everyone is on the same boat and this is something we all weather together.”

The campaign also introduces the eponymous character BeTH, who could be a permanent fixture in this evolving project that manifests how the Benildean community strives amid the pandemic.

Under the tag #BeTHinOurHearts, the avatar continues to provide tips and insights that guide the students with the transition.
