There is always value in reminding everyone of what makes our Filipino culture captivating. For it is in valuing it that we can continue to preserve that which is truly ours.

The pandemic has brought  the loss of livelihood and market opportunities for local artisans. The Yuchengco Museum has always supported the term “Love Local”, and pursuing this direction of cultural support, changes in the museum have been made to show that there will always be a space for cultural expressions like arts and crafts.

The Yuchengco Museum is proud to launch YDesign Hub, a fusion of an exhibit and market space that aims to support the preservation of our traditional master weavers, craftsmen and women; and more importantly to sustain livelihood through sales.

This March, to celebrate women’s month, YDesign Hub showcases a collection of handwoven textiles and textile products from the Great Women Brand Platform entitled Weave Unlocked. The first project is spearheaded by Yuchengco Museum’s Director Jeannie Javelosa, who herself is also a multi-awarded social entrepreneur and advocate for women’s economic empowerment. For the past 6 years, The GREAT Women team has worked with more than 40 weaving communities around the country in an effort to integrate the handloom weaving communities and women weavers towards market access.

WEAVE UNLOCKED showcases just how beautiful Filipino handwoven textiles are and highlights women weavers who have stepped out of their traditional styles to create new innovative textiles. Every weave tells a story and highlights a culture passed down from generation to generation, with new products created for everyday use. It showcases the contemporary fabrics from different traditional community weavers from north to south of the Philippines. The exhibit-market collection is a showcase of the women weavers’ creative innovations through handloom textiles.

WEAVE UNLOCKED can be viewed at the second floor YDesign Hub located at the museum’s second floor until June. You can also approach any of our staff or security if you are interested in making a purchase. The museum is located on the ground floor of RCBC Plaza Cor. Ayala and Sen. Gil J. Puyat Aves. Makati City, Philippines 1200 and open Monday-Saturday from 10am -6pm.
