Nearly one-third of the world’s population do not have enough to eat, resulting in almost 738 million people facing hunger according, to a 2022 report published by the Food Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. In the Philippines alone, about three out of 10 Filipino households experience moderate to severe food insecurity based on a 2021 survey conducted by the Food Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology.

To combat the longstanding issue of food insecurity and malnutrition, especially among children, World Vision Philippines recently launched the ENOUGH Campaign at Hive Hotel in Quezon City, which saw a collaborative gathering of stakeholders and thought leaders.

The ENOUGH Campaign is a collective effort of the World Vision and its partners to end child hunger and malnutrition across the world. The campaign envisions every child enjoying enough nourishing food so they can thrive and reach their full potential.

During the launch, Reginaldo Guillen, the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and Officer-in-Charge of the Nutrition Policy and Planning Division of the National Nutrition Council, stressed that every child has the right to all the basic essentials to achieve a healthy and vigorous life, including a balanced diet, adequate clothing, sufficient shelter, proper medical attention and all the basic physical requirements. “However, these may not be possible due to food insecurity and malnutrition in the country despite its economic strides,” he said.

Meanwhile, Migs Bustos, a renowned TV personality and World Vision ambassador, shared, “We have to be intentional about being thankful for what we have and for the blessings that we continue to receive that most of us just take for granted.”

From their insightful talks, OPM singer, songwriter and World Vision’s long-time Celebrity Ambassador, QUEST also shared, “It takes a village to create this awareness, to rekindle that moral responsibility na meron tayo hindi lang bilang Pilipino pero bilang tao.”

The event concluded with a heartfelt message from Jun N. Godornes, the interim National Director of World Vision Philippines, “Ang goal po ng ENOUGH is to spark movements. Isa po sa role natin as a civil society is to make sure that resources go where they should. With the launch of the global campaign, gusto naming ire-affirm yung dedication ng World Vision in achieving sustainable development goals. Our emphasis is to end child hunger by 2030.”
