The rainy season has arrived and with it comes the unpredictable traffic which can bring cars and many other things to a standstill in the metro. During times like these, a leisurely meal with a few drinks can be a welcome respite for those who just clocked out from work.
KAO Manila is the latest nightlife destination in Newport World Resorts, the country’s premier lifestyle and entertainment destination. Since its opening in 2022, the superclub has been bringing its patrons an upscale VIP experience with its excellent cocktails, eclectic music, and posh atmosphere.
But more than just a place to enjoy the night, KAO Manila is also a gustatory mecca with Executive Chef Rachel Kao offering up modern takes on Asian dishes. From Japanese to Thai, to Chinese cuisine, Kao’s food offerings are just as good as its bar list.
The fresh oysters are a prime example of how KAO pulls out all the stops when it comes to their dishes. Unlike the small oysters found locally, the superclub opts to offer Japanese oysters the size on one’s whole hand.
“We only want the best for our VIPs so all our ingredients go through thorough sourcing. Our oysters are air flown weekly from Hokkaido, from the best possible source but we still do constant quality checking to ensure we continue to provide only the best,” chef Kao said.
The Dimsum Basket is also an enjoyable treat. The Shu Mai is bouncy to the bite with a well-balanced flavor while the Har Gow is stuffed with large chunks of prawns with no extenders.
There are also mains that satiate any hunger pangs. The Salt and Pepper Grouper is a delight to eat with deep-fried nuggets of fish served alongside the actual fish where the fillets were cut from. Meanwhile, the Coco Chicken is a fresh and light dish that is easy to consume. These dishes are best paired with sides like Pad Thai and Salmon Fried Rice.
