IN an unwavering display of their commitment to environmental stewardship, Watsons Philippines has once again taken the lead in their annual coastal cleanup initiative. Their goal is to make a positive impact on our planet and the communities that thrive upon it. In a notable partnership with SM, the renowned health and beauty retailer orchestrated the International Coastal Cleanup event at SM by the Bay on September 16. Together, they collected 66,200 kilograms of waste.
The focal point of this year’s cleanup was none other than the iconic Manila Bay coastline – a vital lifeline for countless Filipinos and a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike.
As a brand deeply committed to environmental consciousness, Watsons is dedicated to ensuring the cleanliness, beauty, and safety of the Manila Bay area.
Lexie Coloma, senior sustainability manager, articulated the brand’s commitment as a cornerstone of Watsons’ comprehensive sustainability agenda. Their devotion lies particularly in safeguarding the purity of our waterways. “One of our pivotal milestones is collecting 65,000 kilograms of waste by 2030. While this goal may appear daunting, our partnership with SM for the International Coastal Cleanup stands as a significant stride toward its goal,” she emphasized.
The event boasted the participation of 12,580 volunteers, representing not only Watsons employees but also suppliers, partners, media representatives, and influential figures from social media. Distinguished officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Coastguard delivered a comprehensive orientation on coastal cleanup, placing paramount importance on ocean preservation and the imperative of reducing plastic consumption.
In addition to their annual coastal cleanup initiative, Watsons has seamlessly woven sustainability practices into their everyday operations. They have introduced a suite of sustainability programs, including the innovative Recycle for Rewards and Trash to Cash, designed to motivate customers to recycle in exchange for exclusive Watsons incentives.
Aligned with their commitment, Watsons has also forged a strategic partnership with Plastic Bank, aiming to collect and recycle 40 million plastic bottles by 2030. This commitment underscores Watsons’ dedication to sustainability and environmental protection.
By actively diminishing their ecological footprint, Watsons is setting an example in championing responsible consumption and environmental preservation. Their initiatives serve as a beacon, inspiring other brands to follow suit in the journey toward a cleaner and more sustainable world.
