‘The Pursuit of Everyday Bliss’

Migs Villanueva’s latest exhibition, “The Pursuit of Everyday Bliss,” showcases her art–raw, spontaneous, and unaffected. Marked with nostalgia and humor, informed by memory, and of her own understanding of children and childhood, this selection of works evokes cherished childhood memories and explores the themes of pleasure and the pursuit for happiness prevalent in modern society.

Inspired by the transience of idyllic childhood and the imperfection of memory, Migs’ works transport us to a liminal space where we experience childlike wonder and innocence with the hindsight of having grown up. We reflect, yearn, and hold on to cherished snippets of our own wonder years where we shift our perspective entirely of the importance of maintaining a childlike pursuit of bliss.

Migs captures childhood’s fragile and authentic emotions through her paintings, presenting moments on canvas that invite us to interpret and connect on our own memories. The deliberate scribbles and sketches in her work reflects her commitment to capturing spontaneity and ‘happy little accidents’ akin to the unfiltered nature of a child’s perspective.

Embracing imperfection as a source of beauty, Migs aims to resonate with the viewer’s heart by prompting introspection and recognition of shared and perceived experiences of childhood bliss.

“The Pursuit of Everyday Bliss” will run from June 21 to July 4, 2024, at Art Lounge Manila at the Podium.
