THE Belenismo sa Tarlac celebration, now in its 16th year, has been a showcase of the remarkable talents of Tarlaqueño artists and craftsmen since its inception in 2007. Founded by Tarlac Heritage Foundation head Isabel Cojuangco and co-founder Dr. Isa Suntay, the event highlights the art of Belen-making and promotes the spirit of “Bayanihan” among the people of Tarlac.
As visitors embark on a journey through the diverse displays this year, they will discover that each Belen is a masterpiece that has its own captivating story to tell. The artistic creations are not just a visual spectacle, but also serve as poignant reflections on the critical need to preserve the environment, foster peace and security, and uphold the spirit of giving. The intricate details and unique narratives woven into each exhibit contribute to a collective celebration of community, creativity, and shared values.
The event features 53 Tarlaqueño participants who have unveiled a dazzling array of magnificent Belens. The AFP Belen, created by the Armor Division of the Philippine Army, represents hope and resilience in our changing world. It uses bamboo, a versatile and cost-effective material that embodies adaptability and resourcefulness. The lower level of the display features a winter wonderland with a bamboo wall adorned by potted plants, symbolizing the importance of peace and security and the Army’s efforts to ensure food security and protect the territory.
The CYG Belen highlights cultural diversity and the spirit of giving, while the Bannawag Belen symbolizes hope, renewal, transformation, and improvement. The AMA by Alagang I.N.A Belen is a tribute to all the “fathers” and Father Joses who serve as protectors, supporters, and guides, reminding everyone that love and sacrifice are not limited to blood relations.
The Municipality of San Clemente Belen emphasizes environmental sustainability and waste management through the “Bayanihan sa Belenismo” campaign, while the Iglesia Filipina Independiente Belen highlights the essential role of food in Filipino culture. The Victoria Belen pays homage to the Canarem Lake Bird Sanctuary, and the Capas Belen symbolizes the new programs and projects being carried out in the town.
The event has been a great success, and one of the highlights of this year’s celebration was the visitation of Ambassadors from Europe and other key figures who toured the Belenismo entries in Tarlac, further showcasing the artistic prowess of the participants and the cultural richness of the region.
