Taiwan beyond boba tea

Most Filipinos love boba tea, not realizing that it is in fact a Taiwanese product that is popular in Asia and now the rest of the world, especially in North America.

Another popular Taiwan food export is their famous Fenglisu or pineapple cake which has become a very popular and in-demand pasalubong from family and friends who visit Taiwan.

There is also that delightful flaky pastry called Tai Yang Bing or sun cake, and old Taiwanese standard fare with maltose paste in its center.

The International Trade Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council has warmly welcomed guests to the Taiwan Award-Winning Foods Pavilion at the World Food Expo (WOFEX) 2024 at SMX Convention Center in Manila.

The event was a good chance for Filipinos to find more to discover and love about Taiwan’s nearly 150 products from 71 renowned Taiwanese companies, which are all SMEs.

These “Made in Taiwan” products are not only certified and awarded domestically and internationally but have also been recognized by Monde Selection, ITQI, Halal certification, organic certification, additive-free labels, and A.A. Taste Awards.

At the event’s opening, Dustin Yang, deputy representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines joined Filipino friends at Taiwan’s pavilion to stress that while Din Tai Fung’s Xiao Long Bao and Cha-time’s bubble milk tea might quickly come to mind, many other Taiwanese delicacies also deserve to be tasted and might become new favorites. He expressed pleasure in sharing these with guests at the pavilion.
