SWIMWEAR designer Domz Ramos added another feather to his cap after several shows in the US. From Houston, Texas to New York City, the Taguig designer has taken his bow after showcasing his 25-piece La Corazon collection to the delight of predominantly Filipino audiences.

Ramos is known to Filipino pageant fans as the quick-witted, sharp-humored designer for Binibining Pilipinas, designing swimwear for the premiere national pageant since 2016 as well as for a bevy of regional and local pageants in the country. After outfitting hundreds of pageant aspirants and queens, he is now ready to expand his brand beyond swimwear.

Ramos wanted his love for everything Filipino to be a reflection of the La Corazon collection, particularly inspired by former President Corazon Aquino and comprised of outfits from dazzling swimwear to saccharine creations for kids to exquisitely designed formals.

The collection was divided into several sections: the diva-esque black and gold embellished swimwear section paired with feathered headpieces fit for the Valkyries, as well as the yellow Hibiscus section that exploded with floral embroidery in tulle. The show ended with the traditional Filipiniana and a bridal finale of a Muslim-inspired Filipiniana ensemble.

Even Ramos’s choice of music stayed true to his roots – a rendition by the Philippine Madrigal Singers of Levi Celerio’s classic “Ang Pipit.”

His wide array of clothes is as diverse as the people he says he wants to clothe. Domz didn’t go the usual route of castings and this showed in his choice of different models — so inclusive that he selected models with Down Syndrome, of different races, transgenders, as well as women of various ages. Not discriminating on who wears his clothes, he prefers to make people feel good about wearing his creations.

With the support of his manager Mary Ann Santiano and producer Zim Lovern, Domz Ramos was able to present his collection at the recent New York Fashion Week, a milestone of sorts from his humble beginnings as a budding designer from Taguig.
