Due to its location and geographic features, the Bicol region is vulnerable to typhoons. Just this year, about eight typhoons have hit the area, causing significant damage to properties – forcing residents to leave their homes.
Responding to the needs of Filipino communities, UNIQLO Philippines, in collaboration with SM Foundation (SMFI), distributed construction supplies to victims of recent typhoons in the Bicol region. Through the partnership, residents of Brgy. Bolo, Tiwi, Albay received nails, sealant, plywood, lumber, and other roofing materials.
Since 2021, this collab for social good effort has been able to help over 1,000 families affected by various disasters get back on their feet by aiding them in rebuilding their homes, including Bicolanos.
Meanwhile, SMFI and Uniqlo Philippines have been working together to spread social good in communities since 2012.
Aside from the continuous run of its social good programs, which all intend to improve the quality of life of Filipinos, SMFI–the corporate social responsibility arm of the SM group–also actively partners with organizations and government agencies to further strengthen its reach to those in the grassroots communities.
