Enter a world of introspection and imagination through different avenues as CJ Tañedo captures the flight of the mind with his exhibit “Reverie”, alongside Christian Mirang’s “Dagtum at Puraw” which delves into the liminal space. Their works are currently on display at Art Lounge Manila-Podium in Mandaluyong.
In his 9th solo exhibition, Tañedo masterfully weaves subjects, symbols, and themes from the realm of allegory, resulting in a spellbinding visual poetry that is “Reverie.” The works offer a glimpse into the artist’s innermost musings, and through his art, we contemplate the fundamental aspects of human existence, ponder the complexities of love and life, and reflect upon the things that truly matter.
Drawing inspiration from his deep-rooted artistic upbringing and influenced by renowned masters such as Amorsolo, Luna, Rembrandt, and Odd Nerdrum, as well as from the rich tradition of allegory, he skillfully incorporates symbolic elements that add depth and layers of meaning to his compositions. The result is a captivating body of work that resonates with viewers on both an emotional and intellectual level.
Meanwhile, Mirang’s latest exhibition, is a departure from his primary medium on 2 fronts: eschewing watercolor for which he is known for to focus on black and white, and using oil and acrylic as his paint.

A Kulay sa Tubig Art Competition Hall of Famer, Mirang has captivated audiences with his vibrant and hyperrealist watercolors, which often depict abstract reflections, urban landscapes, and everyday vignettes. However, in “Dagtum at Puraw,” he takes a bold step away from color, inviting us to explore the compelling beauty of monochromatic expression.
Each composition is imbued with a sense of familiarity, yet simultaneously possesses an otherworldly quality that entices viewers to delve deeper into their own psyches. It is as if Mirang has unearthed images from the edges of memories and the shadows of dreams, inviting us to join him on a captivating journey of the mind.
While the darkness may appear all-encompassing in some of Mirang’s compositions, there is always a ray of light that permeates the scene. This subtle yet powerful presence reminds us that light will always conquer darkness, and that from it, life and hope will spring forth. Mirang’s exploration of this theme resonates deeply, inviting us to reflect on the ever-present forces of light and shadow within our own lives.
