Recognizing household workers’ sacrifices

Household workers or ‘kasambahays’ — trusted nannies, drivers, laundress, gardeners, caretakers, cooks — are always there to help Filipino families in their everyday busy life and are the foundation of a more comfortable and happy home.

To honor their hard work, dedication, integrity, and valuable contributions, the Junior Chamber International Senate Philippines Inc. together with Palawan Group will hold the seventh edition of Kasambahay Kasambuhay Pilipinas Awards 2022.

“For an often-neglected sector of society, our national organization has chosen to honor them for their tenure of service and promotion of time-honored Filipino values coupled with their unquestionable integrity and loyalty to the people they work for,” Henry Juan Tong, national president of JCI.

“With the unfortunate traditional lower wages, fewer benefits, and social protection, the choice of the Kasambuhay Pilipinas Awards as our national flagship project is beyond reproach,” Tong added.

“As a person close to our own kasambahays at home, this advocacy of recognizing their contributions is a project close to my heart,” said May Joyce Galanto, national chairman of the Kasambahay Kasambuhay Pilipinas Awards 2022.

“Each kasambahay has their own wonderful stories just waiting to be shared and this is the perfect venue for them to do so. While we award them for their hard work and dedication, we also learn from their journey,” Galanto noted.

“It is in line with the idea that we should say ‘thank you’ to our kasambahays,” said Bobby Castro, president and chief executive officer of Palawan Pawnshop Group (PPG). “These awards give tribute to them who sacrifice being away from their own families just to be able to earn and send money home.”

This year’s prizes are even bigger than ever. The top ten chosen kasambahays (minimum of five years in service) will get P100,000 each, while those who will be chosen for the 11th to 30th places (no minimum years of service) will receive P10,000 each. Also, ten of the most liked and shared Facebook posts will win P5,000.

To be eligible for the Kasambahay Kasambuhay Pilipinas Awards 2022, kasambahays can nominate themselves or their employers can do so. They must not be more than 75 years of age and have rendered services for at least six years in their present employer.

Palawan, a brand trusted for 37 years that carries Palawan Pawnshop Group and Palawan Express Padala, now has over 3,300 branches all over Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

To adapt to the increasing digital transaction needs of its customers, PPG recently introduced PalawanPay, an e-wallet app that lets users send and receive remittances in an instant and also gives them access to other financial services such as bills payment, e-cellphone load, and scan to pay.

Because of this new app, kasambahays are able to send money to their loved ones in a convenient, fast, and secured manner.

It also provides them with extra savings and convenience since they no longer have to go out to line-up. It also gives them peace of mind knowing that their hard-earned money will be immediately received by their family members.
