THOUSANDS of fans and frontliners sang and danced with exciting girl group Calista at their “Vax to Normal” concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last April 26.

“Vax to Normal,” a production of Merlion Events, is a treat to the men and women who have been at the forefront of the country’s pandemic response for over two years.

“It is our way of recognizing the heroism of medical and non-medical frontliners who have gone above and beyond to perform their duties amid the pandemic,” said Calista’s manager, Tyronne Escalante of Tyronne Escalante Artist Management (TEAM).

Calista headlined the concert and performed their single, “Race Car.” The six members — Olive, Laiza, Anne, Elle, Dain, and Denise — wowed with their moves, the result of intense training in dance and voice. During the weeks leading up to the concert, the girls underwent trained for up to 12 hours a day. They were under the tutelage of Crissie and Froilan of Douglas Nierras Power Dance, Vimi Rivera, Manoeuvres, and Marnie Jereza, according to Escalante.

What made Calista’s first big concert more special was the participation of superb performers, including Yeng Constantino, Elmo Magalona, AC Bonifacio, Darren, Andrea Brillantes, and Ken San Jose. The girl group held their own while performing with the more experienced idols in the concert scene.

Fans and frontliners were overwhelmed by the importance Calista showed to them. They expressed their appreciation and said they hope that the country continues to heal. They also encourage everyone to get themselves vaccinated.

“We are eternally grateful for our heroes, our frontliners — both medical and non-medical —who have gone above and beyond their duties to help save the country amid this pandemic. Now, we can attend concerts such as this, meet our friends and families again, travel, and much more. None of this would have been possible if not for our brave frontliners,” Merlion’s CEO, Atty. Javier Flores, said.

The Araneta extravaganza, directed by Nico Faustino and under the musical direction of Soc Mina, is just the first of many exciting events lined up for Calista. Escalante urges fans to look for updates on the group’s social media channels.

“Thank you so much for all the support from our fans, friends, and families. Without their kind words and encouragement, we would not be here at Smart Araneta Coliseum, performing and paying tribute to our frontliners. We also appreciate the kind concerns from P-pop fans who continue to challenge us and keep us motivated to push forward and do better,” Anne, Calista’s leader, shared.
