A pathway to education in Europe

Filipinos take high stock in quality education, with many seeing it as a key to building a better life in the future. And while there are numerous individuals that would grab the opportunity to study abroad, the lack of knowledge about the available avenues to do so is a significant hurdle.

The European Union (EU) Delegation in Manila hopes to address this issue with its European Higher Education Fair (EHEF), a 2-day education fair which sees different UE member-states come together under one roof to showcase the different education institutions that Filipinos can study in.

It will feature 77 higher education institutions and diplomatic missions participating on-ground and online from Belgium, The Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Hungary, The Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Finland, Sweden and the EU.

There will also be onsite seminars hosted by the EU Member States’ Embassies and Cultural Institutes. These sessions will provide in-depth information on higher education systems, student life in the EU, research grants, and scholarship opportunities like Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions and Jean Monnet, which are open for students and educators alike.

“The European Higher Education Fair reflects the EU’s commitment to providing an immersive platform to explore a diverse array of opportunities, resources, and insights for Filipino students interested in pursuing their higher education in the European Union,” EU Ambassador to the Philippines Massimo Santoro said.

One EHEF alumni is Jerald Apac who was a scholar of the Philippine-France Fellowship Program. He pursued his Master’s in Nuclear Engineering at Université Paris-Saclay and CentraleSupélec. He now works with the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI). Apac shared that his experience studying in France was incomparable. “The people of France, known for their warmth and deep appreciation of art and culture, made my time even more enjoyable. The country’s rich cultural heritage, arts, and history provided constant inspiration. Studying in France was more than an education. It was an unforgettable adventure,” he said.

Those who wish to broaden their horizons by studying abroad can visit the 3rd and 4th floor of the Ortigas wing of Robinsons Galleria on November 22 and 23. For those who are unable to attend the physical event, EHEF will also be holding an online education fair on November 25 via Zoom and through the EHEF Philippines social media pages. Interested participants can register at ehefphilippines.com. Registration and entrance to the fair is free.
