AS the country kicks off its celebration of the 123rd anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service, chairman Junie E. Cua of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office hailed the role of public servants in nation building.
“Every need that we can think about, we can expect that there are government workers trying their best to address it. Nariyan rin ang mga kawani ng pamahalaan sa bawat sakuna, nangunguna sa frontline para itaguyod ang kapakanan natin (Government workers are also at the forefront in times of crisis, always in the frontline to ensure the welfare of the people),” Cua said.
“From our communities through barangay workers to the national level, the work of nation-building would not advance without public employees,” he added.
The Philippine Civil Service anniversary is observed every year during the month of September. The civil service was created on September 19, 1900 by virtue of Public Law No. 5, or the Act for the Establishment and Maintenance of an Efficient and Honest Civil Service in the Philippine Islands.
The Civil Service Commission has introduced a 10-year overarching theme in 2021, called “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes.”
“The theme reflects the collective experience of the government workforce in the new normal, and in pushing for digital transformation and innovations to uphold public service excellence and continuity,” the CSC has said.
The CSC also announced that for this year, the celebration shall focus on the importance of cultivating dynamism among government workers to, in turn, foster sustainable management and strengthened organizational resilience.
Cua backed the need to continue to strive in transforming public service, as he highlighted the challenges presented by climate change and the opportunities presented by digitalization.
“We in government should be initiators of change. Wherever and whenever possible, we must introduce innovations to improve our service delivery,” he said.
He also said that the PCSO continues to look for ways to improve its services.
“We take to heart our directive from Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., to continue improving how we serve the people. Kaya nagsusumikap din tayo na maging mas efficient at effective ang aming mga proseso para sa taumbayan.
Kasama na rito ang pag-digitalize ng mga request for assistance at iba pang serbisyo ng PCSO (We are working double time so we can be more efficient and effective in our public service, including the digitalization of requests for PCSO assistance),” Cua said.
