Meaningful relationships

We see our calendars filled with so many things to do and deliver, but what keeps us going aside from the Whys and Wherefores of our lives are the genuine people we interact and engage with in the process. Meeting new and old faces, creating bonds and connections as well as developing meaningful relationships that we keep for years and, in special cases, a lifetime.

Meaningful events with fellow leaders

In a service-oriented industry like ours in the Hospitality and Tourism sector, more than just a transaction, it’s the authentic connection that we hold dear. This usually starts with an intent to help, a desire to provide service that delights and an effort to send the message that we are here for you.

This week, I had on my calendar an overnight visit to the City of Love, Iloilo. A quick one for an important campaign that would even take the desire to showcase this City to untapped areas and markets in collaboration with the key stakeholders of the place.

Meetings transpired, some schedule and some incidental, but it really warms the heart how established meaningful relationships always go a long way. That no matter how many years have passed, the emotional connection and great impressions remain the same.

This only happens when we treat people with mutual respect and trust. When we make each encounter count and when every chance we get we foster sincere connections that we all can take to heart.

Hoteliers like us value loyalty of our clients and guests. A warm smile at the Front Office upon check in. A follow-through question of what the other needs of the guests are. A simple note from the housekeeping staff to express gratitude for their stay. All these efforts showcase the warmth of the Filipino hospitality and our desire to connect and create meaningful experiences and relationships.

Sales Teams happily aligning with other departments

For Sales Teams, we survive with the strong bonds we create with our go-to corporate clients who are always there to share business opportunities with us. I remember being asked in a Hospitality Forum what are the loyalty efforts that we do to keep our clients and as I gazed around the audience I saw some of my former sales team members who used to be Sales Executives and Managers who have now been groomed to become Directors of Sales and Marketing and even General Managers after a few years, that sight pushed me to share that the loyalty of the clientele is more often hinged on the relationship that these sales professionals have established through the years and that establishes precious loyalty.

How clients are treated as partners and how clients are assured that their account manager will go through great lengths to ensure that their needs are met. That’s when we can say that trust can really take us places.

It is human for us to feel great when we are valued. It does create lasting and meaningful memories when we establish the confidence in others to give us the attention that we deserve and experience more than the basic expectation of service. We have seen during the two-year pandemic how valued relationships can keep us going. How pure intentions are expressed through concern. How personal efforts can mean a lot to others.

As we continue our daily grind in an industry where being courteous is a basic, let us never undermine the importance of creating genuine connections through meaningful relationships. After all, our dear Creator has fostered a deep assurance for each and every one of us that no matter who we are, we are very meaningful to Him.
