SM Foundation’s officers took time out to break bread with second generation executives of People’s Independent Media, Inc., publisher of Malaya Business Insight newspaper recently.
Over buffet lunch at Cyan Lanson’s Place, it was a fruitful meeting for both parties to exchange views about the collaborative work of the private sector and media in information dissemination. It was likewise an occasion to introduce SMFI officials led Executive Director for Education Linda Atayde, Executive Director for Health & Medical Programs Connie Angeles, VP for Livelihood & Outreach, Cristie Angeles, School Building Program Head Juris Soliman, SAVP for Education Eleanor Lansang, and members of SMIC Corporation Communications led by Mr. Chito Macapagal.

Programs of the Foundation were introduced to the new set of officials while editors were likewise briefed of possible tie-ups on stories pertaining to the scholarship program which is being offered for the schoolyear including the schoolbuildings being built nationwide. SMFI’s Eleanor Lansang briefed Malaya Managing Editor Ma. Teresa Molina on the SM scholarship program with its ongoing application period until the end of March. The Farmers’ Training program was widely discussed with the editors with the hope that enough information will be disseminated so that Sunday markets in the malls where produce of Farmers are sold will be availed of by the public.
For Ms. Connie Angeles, the occasion was more than a meeting with a media partner. Seated beside Mr. Allen Macasaet, she reflected on the occasions when she had the opportunity to meet Allen’s father, Mr. Jake Macasaet, who once served as the newspaper’s publisher. The older Macasaet also had a column that she never missed to read.
