‘Hope Triumphs’

“Suffering has been stronger than all other teaching, and has taught me to understand what your heart used to be. I have been bent and broken, but – I hope – into a better shape.”
“• Charles Dickens

Janddie Castillo’s artistic method is a physical and meditative process that fills each canvas with moving lines and multi-layered textures.

His latest works for “Hope Triumphs” is based on the art form of Bonsai trees. For the artist, the trees symbolize the immutable bond of family. The rocks represent strength and foundation, while the distant sun in the paintings signify light, hope, and guidance. The practice of Bonsai also reflects the fact that no work even attains a state of completeness.

They are always growing, evolving, flourishing. They are a beautiful reminder of the constant transition and development life takes within the realms of existence, a never-ending evolution.

The simple subtle details of the subject manifest in the apparent simple texture that balances simplicity and complexity. Looked at correctly, a bonsai tree – leaves, branches, rocks, and all – reminds one of the important elements of life and the important elements of art, and of the fact that those elements aren’t as far apart.

There is an art form of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death.A sense of grief can surround those who have lost those beloved but also a sense of joy for having loved or having been loved, and for the artist, that is the most wondrous gift of all.

“Hope Triumphs” is a tribute to Janddie Castillo’s mother, who succumbed to Covid recently.

He hopes that his work triggers some recognition of truth to its viewer and impart access to oneanother as human beings. Castillo believes that in knowing each other we can know that we are not alone in times of grief.

“Master of Splash Art” is the title given to Janddie Castillo (b.1974), a Far Eastern University Bachelor of Fine Arts Batch 1995 alumni, by his peers due to his unique art style which he invented and coined. This technique melds realistic and impressionistic themes with the symphony of splashes, splatters, and swiping strokes. He has successfully mastered Splash Technique using Palette Knife and vivid color combinations to make an art style that is truly Filipino and truly Castillo’s own.Castillo has been generating serious interest among collectors in the art scene via his numerous successful one-man shows, countless group exhibits, art contests and awards, art fairs, and workshops. Castillo has since matured into one of the fastest rising contemporary artists in the industry.

“Hope Triumphs”by Janddie Castillo will be on view from January 18 to 27, 2022 at Galerie Joaquin Podium. The Galerie is located at Level 3, The Podium, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City
