The Rotary has been around for over a century and has etched its mark on the pages of history as one of the most renowned civic organizations involved in many voluntary endeavors benefitting people and communities, according to Pau Sagana, president of the Rotary Club of Sta. Mesa, Quezon City, and the event host club.
For Sagana, many Rotarians have become famous due to the huge impact they left in their place of service. However, recognition, if at all, is the very least goal of every Rotarian who believes in and upholds the motto, “Service Above Self.”
As their acts have spoken, the contributions of industry leaders have been recognized at the 2023-2024 Rotary Golden Wheel Awards and the Mario R. Nery Vocational Excellence Award held at The Glass Garden Events Venue in Pasig City.
Robert Nazal, chairman of the Awards Night, congratulated the distinguished honorees, saying
“Your odyssey, characterized by relentless perseverance and audacious spirit, has etched a permanent masterpiece on the tapestry of excellence.”
The recipients of the 2023-2024 Rotary Golden Wheel Awards include Maria Aileen Abiva (education), Philippine National Police Chief Benjamin Acorda Jr. (public order and safety), Adam Gabriel Alejo (entertainment), LtGen. Greg Almerol (national defense and security), Alfonso Corpus Bolipata (culture and arts), Dr. Maria Minerva Calimag (medicine), Michelle Dee (women empowerment), Atty. Nilo Divina (legal practice), Ann Adeline Dumaliang (environmental protection), Alan German (public relations), Prosperidad dela Cruz Luis (science and technology), PCol. Hansel Marantan (public order and safety), PBGen. Jezebel Medina (dental medicine), George Royeca (entrepreneurship), Dr. Catherine Teh (modern medicine and surgery), and Anette Gozon-Valdes (media and public service).
Honored to serve as this year’s chair of the Selection Committee, district governor-elect Domilo Lucenario said that the process of selection, guided by the criteria on community needs addressed, beneficiaries, impact, innovativeness, engagement, and role, has been quite a challenge considering all nominees are top-notch in their respective fields of expertise with strong performance credentials.
“As you ascend the dais of accolade, be assured that your endeavors are not merely acknowledged but are celebrated with the deepest esteem and admiration,” Nazal also said.
Sagana said that the awards will serve as a torch to be carried by many others who wish to follow the path of selfless acts.
