Galerie Joaquin proudly presents ““Greater Heights””, an inaugural exhibition featuring Michael Cacnio’s tableaux of characters taken from traditional Filipino archetypes delivered in his distinct signature style, revealing enduring truths about human nature, about the family and the community. The special exhibition will open at the Galerie’s newest branch located in R3 Level, Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Center, Makati.
Balloons can be found whenever there’s a festivity, elevating the spirit of the celebrating crowd. A balloon can be considered a proper metaphor for life that repeats its cycle of tension and relaxation. Fully inflated balloons unveil the balance between pursuit of desire and restraint. Colorful balloons represent various lives, and balloons making repeat patterns stand for lives all of a sort.
For Michael Cacnio’s latest exhibition titled “Greater Heights”, the artist takes the Latin expression “carpe diem”, translated as “seize the day”, by heart. For Cacnio, living in the moment is a resistance to mortality. By enjoying the present as how one takes part in a festival, one becomes hardly conscious of time as if in timeless blissful eternity.
Michael Cacnio’s depiction of a vibrant emblem of childhood delight is a symbolism of innocence and discovery. The vibrancy of colors aims to inspire audiences to start a new adventure; it is a representation of hope, as the sculptures represent an optimistic promise for the future.
Michael Cacnio steadily built his reputation for passionate and consistent depictions of social realities in his art. His skill in creating provocative brass spectacles out of real-life quotidian scenes has earned him accolades from a host of prestigious organizations over the years. His many achievements include a 2006 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Award, sold-out exhibits in the international art market, and the rare distinction of being the first Filipino artist ever to showcase his work at the Headquarters of the European Commission at the Berlaymont Building in Brussels. All his accomplishments have thus earned him a venerable slot in the pantheons of Philippine sculpture.
“Greater Heights”, a Michael Cacnio Solo Exhibition, will be on view from November 28 to December 13, 2021 at Galerie Joaquin, R3 Level, Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Center, Makati.
