Furniture pieces as timekeepers of history, vessels of spirit

Destonos makes its debut with a powerful introduction to the world of sculptural furniture, a collection shaped by ash, spirit, and time.

Its design philosophy is rooted in a singular material –volcanic ash — gathered from the aftermath of an eruption that blanketed the provinces of Pampanga, Zambales, and Bataan. What was once a by-product of chaos is now sculpture. A material out of destruction has now become a design element.

“In every fragment of ash, there’s a trace of a story, of land reshaped, of people who rebuilt, and of spirit that endured,” said Shirley Dy, co-founder of Destonos.

Destonos captures moments of nature and preserves them in timeless sculptural furniture.

“We saw an opportunity not just to create furniture, but to crystallize these lived experiences into lasting, tactile memory,” she added.

Destonos was born in Concepcion, Tarlac, a place shaped, like its materials, by layers of history, upheaval and quiet reinvention. Each piece draws from this landscape, an ongoing memory, cultural continuity carried in matter.

“Every shape we cast, every texture we preserve is a quiet homage to time itself,” said Douglas Dy, co-founder of Destonos. “The hands of our craftsmen carry the gestures of those who came before, merging generations of regional knowledge and contemporary vision into timeless pieces.

By drawing from the geographical and cultural tapestry of the Philippines, Destonos bridges heritage with design innovation. The pieces serve as temporal markers capturing the essence of place, the touch of its artisans, and the spirit of moments both fleeting as well as enduring memories.

This balance of heritage and innovation speaks of a  synthesis of design. “Filipino ingenuity is unassailable. What we’re doing is giving it a new global language,” said Shirley Dy. We want Destonos to speak to anyone who understands beauty, regardless of where they come from,” Shirley Dy said.

From the interplay of raw textures to the sculptural precision of form, each Destonos creation invites conversation. These are not merely furniture pieces, they are fragments of geography, timekeepers of history, and vessels of spirit.

Destonos redefines design paradigms by pushing the boundaries of furniture through a deliberate interplay of nature, culture, and artistic mastery. The collection is a quiet yet powerful homage to transformation, anchored in Filipino identity and shaped by modern craftsmanship.
