Depictions of nature have been a recurring theme in art throughout time. It has sometimes been treated in a mythical or animist register, or else perceived as the very framework of sublimity and existence, often remote and difficult to capture. Conventionally realized through expansive picturesque forms, nature in art, in some ways, has been regarded as the measure of the absolute when viewed as the quintessential sublime object.
For his latest exhibition, visual artist Ralph Villaluz examines this concept and contrasts it against his understanding between man and nature’s coexistence through the abstraction of nature itself. Carrying a meticulous choice of composition and overt display of mastery and control with colors, Villaluz exhibit pieces that are seemingly viewed from an up-close vantage, unerringly bringing us closer to his works, deviating away from the orthodox depictions of nature. Ralph Villaluz’s works for this show is a testament to the artist’s budding career, but more so, it is a reverence to the natural world, featuring meditative works that transcend not only our general understanding of art but also that of the things around us.
Ralph Villaluz studied Painting at the University of the Philippines, Diliman and received his Fine Arts – Advertising degree from the Far Eastern University. He is a member of 1 San Mateo Artist Guild and International Watercolor Society since 2017. In pursuance of art as a lifelong journey, Villaluz creates artworks using various media and concepts bound for progression and innovation. His ideas are bonded and derived from various scenes from nature, interpreted to abstract form and expressive textures to convey emotions.
