Foods that fight inflammation

WELLNESS expert and health advocate Dr. Kaycee Reyes of Luminisce Clinics shares healthy eats, particularly the anti-inflammatory diet, that she curated for her family and patients.

Reyes, who completed her Diploma in Dermatology from King’s College and Master of Science in Clinical Dermatology from St. John’s Institute of Dermatology at Guy’s & St. Thomas Hospital in London, said the anti-inflammatory diet is a way to re-evaluate how people have been eating and it brings attention to their food choices as well as lifestyle.
She calls this diet a “reset,” as it is like taking a pause from the daily stress, becoming more mindful of what we consume.

Reyes also explained that the immune system becomes activated when one’s body recognizes anything that is foreign, which includes invading microbes, plant pollen, or chemicals.

“It often triggers a process called inflammation which protects the body from these invaders,” she stressed. When the inflammation becomes chronic, it may cause major diseases that are linked as comorbidities for COVID-19.

Inflammation can affect your body’s overall performance and indulging too much in inflammation-causing foods can cause skin aging. Foods that are rich in antioxidants and polyphenols can protect against inflammation, and these are found in each food item of Innosense Organics.

While it is a struggle to eat the best foods when everyone is agitated by the pandemic, Reyes, who also completed her Master of Science in Preventive and Regenerative Medicine at Dresden International University in Germany, noted the situation reminds Filipinos they are blessed living in a country where fresh produce grows.

Innosense Organics offers artisanal granola, free-range turkey broth, chicken broth, free-range chicken nuggets, turkey balls, and turkey patties which are all pure organic and are best paired with its very own pure organic cauliflower rice.

For healthy beverages made fresh daily, try the red juice (beets, apple, ginger, lemon, carrots, and cucumber); green juice (kale, spinach, cucumber, lemon, red grapes, ginger, celery, and apple); and yellow juice (pineapple, yellow bell pepper, lemon, ginger, wild honey).

“The body is best protected from life-threatening diseases when it is nourished properly with a well-balanced diet,” Reyes pointed out.
