For “La Tierra”, Rocha depicts the subjects engaged in various forms of labor, combined with occasional periods of rest and recreation. The artist illustrates female workers cheerfully carrying produce and other harvests as they share light moments after a day of work, characterized in a more intimate and personal level.

Rocha’s“ La Tierra” is narrative in approach. Literally translated as “The Earth”, the title finds inspiration in nature, tradition, and underlying symbolisms, with themes focused on a more matriarchal and equitable system. The concept universally resonates due to its compelling visuals of the human condition in solidarity with mother nature.

“La Tierra” demonstrates the depth, strength, playfulness, and complexity of a woman’s spirit. The show attempts to convey the fortitude of fellowship within a collective human experience. With this exhibit, Jun Rocha hopes for his art to become a source of inspiration for transformation, empowerment, and change, fostering dialog and building community in innovative ways.

He became a member of the Palette and Chisel Art Academy and the Plein Art Painters of Chicago. In 2002, he received an Outstanding Community Artist Award from the City Mayor of Chicago. After more than two decades abroad, Rocha came back to his native Philippines where he continues to showcase his talent for the arts.
