Drinking whisky your way

Whisky has always had connotations as an old-school drink. For many, it should be consumed in the traditional manner — either neat or on the rocks. For those who want to buck tradition, there are also classic cocktails such as a whisky sour, or even mixed with soda. Even then, these are long-standing ways of enjoying a dram or 2 and many would think that breaking these unwritten rules would be a disservice to the liquor.

However, a new mindset has emerged over the years. Today, whisky drinkers are encouraged to enjoy their drinks in more interesting manners, rules be damned.

Experimentation is the name of the game and Ballantine’s Finest is more than happy to share new ways to enjoy whisky.

For those looking for something that remains true to a classic but with a different twist, mix Ballantine’s Finest with cola and serve with a lime wedge. For an even more unique flavor, try using vanilla or cherry cola instead of the standard flavor.

For those looking for a sweet dessert-like drink, blend together vanilla ice cream, milk, ice, and some whisky in a blender for a Ballantine’s milkshake. Top the shake with some chocolate syrup.

Sometimes you might want to have your whisky go down smooth. Take off the alcohol burn by mixing a shot of whisky, lemon juice, honey, and crushed berries in a shaker, then strain and pour into glass filled with ice and top with light beer.

You can also try Ballantine’s Finest with your favorite lemon or citrus soda. Stir together a shot with the lemon soda or lemonade–you can even pour in some honey for added flavor.

Whisky can have a fresh taste as well. For a refreshing drink with a minty kick, mix a shot of Ballantine’s Finest with tonic water and top it with a mint sprig or a drop of mint flavoring, as well as a lemon wedge.

Ballantine’s Finest also works great with fruit juice. Just stir together a shot with apple juice and some soda water in a glass with ice. Other options include orange or grapefruit juice.

“Ballantine’s Finest is a whisky that plays well with other drinks,” said Ballantine’s Finest Brand Executive Kurt Ducusin. “It has a mixing versatility given the balance of sweet and smooth flavor notes but can still be enjoyed the traditional way. That’s why we believe there’s no wrong way to mix.”
