DAEJAYON holds ‘Global Environment Forum for University Students in the Philippines 2023’

This coming October 29, DAEJAYON, an international environmental organization, and the 2022-2024 KOICA-NGO volunteer groups are holding the “Global Environment Forum for University Students in the Philippines 2023” in Quezon City, Manila, Philippines.

The forum aims to raise Filipino and Korean university students’ awareness of the environment under the slogan, “Leading Transformation and Unity: Beyond Borders,” and to spread the culture of university student-initiated environmental protection. Around 300 Filipino students (onsite) and 500 Korean students (online) are expected to participate in this forum to contemplate the climate crisis and share the importance of solidarity for achieving carbon neutrality.

The forum will commence with a congratulatory performance by the orchestra and choir composed of DAEJAYON university student environmental activists, and will be followed by the opening address of DAEJAYON Vice President Jae-kyun Kim and the keynote address by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.

In the expert presentation session, Floradema Eleazar the UNDP Philippines Climate Action Programme Team Leader, Rico C. Ancog the Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of the Philippines will present about the global environmental issues and discuss about the role of university students in achieving carbon neutrality in their schools.

In the youth presentation, Jenica Dizon, the Country Director of the Philippines at Waves for Water, and Woo-jin Jung, the Environmental Club President from Kookmin University in Korea will present excellent cases of environmental activities as well as sharing the examples of youth-initiated innovations. Following the presentations, there will be a panel discussion between environmental experts and young environmentalists, through which a comprehensive solution will be shared from various perspectives.

DAEJAYON Vice President Jae-kyun Kim said, “This forum will serve as an opportunity to expand mutual cooperation and solidarity between the Philippines and Korea for transitioning into a carbon-neutral society and to share deep insights into the impact and role that future generations will have on the global community.”

 The ‘Global Environment Forum for University Students in the Philippines 2023’ is hosted and supervised by the international environmental organization DAEJAYON and 2022-2024 KOICA-NGO volunteers, and supported by the local government of Quezon City, KOICA, World Friends Korea, and The Climate Reality Project Philippines.
