BingoPlus showcased its commitment to community support during the BingoPlus Day Cebu Carnival on July 27, 2024, with a substantial donation of P15 million from the BingoPlus Foundation, the social development arm of DigiPlus.
Of this amount, P10 million was allocated to aid families and individuals affected by Typhoon Carina. The Foundation promptly initiated relief efforts in Metro Manila and various Luzon areas, adhering to its Community Safety and Resilience advocacy.
Originally set at P8 million, the donation total increased by an additional P2 million at the conclusion of the Cebu Carnival, thanks to a collaboration between the BingoPlus Foundation and Cornerstone.
Celeste Jovenir, DigiPlus vice president of Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, and Sustainability, said, “As Typhoon Carina escalated into a super typhoon, we anticipated severe aftermaths. We are actively engaging in immediate relief and post-disaster recovery efforts across Metro Manila and affected provinces, working with the DSWD, LGUs, and other organizations.”
Andy Tsui, president of DigiPlus, said, “BingoPlus Day Cebu Carnival is our way of giving back. We strive to balance enjoyment with our responsibilities as nation builders, and this reflects our commitment.”
Jasper Vicencio, president of AB Leisure Exponent, Inc., said, “What makes the event even more special is that, in addition to the fun and entertainment, BingoPlus is contributing P8 million in relief supplies to communities impacted by Typhoon Carina.”
The event introduced three beneficiaries of the Foundation’s support: the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II, the Philippine Accessible Disability Services Inc. (PADS), and the Municipality of Dumanjug, Cebu.
The BingoPlus Foundation is funding a PLUS e-Center for Livelihood and Technology at the DSWD Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II. This center, with an investment of at least P1.5 million, will provide computer sets for digital skills training and printing machines for tarpaulin and t-shirt printing. The e-center will also support graduates without access to computers and internet for remote work, and assist in launching small businesses.
Juanito Cantero, DSWD assistant regional director for operations for Region VII, said, “On behalf of DSWD Field Office 7, we thank the BingoPlus Foundation for their generous donation. It will boost our clients’ confidence and productivity in the community.”
PADS will receive P2 million for the construction of a PLUS Center for Adaptive Sports and Physical Rehabilitation. In collaboration with the Mandaue LGU and Cebu’s Colleges of Rehabilitative Sciences, the center will also aid in the professional development of medical specialists.
PADS representative and team captain of the PADS Adaptive Dragon Boat Racing Team, Owen Loceno Paddler, shared in Cebuano his wish for others to receive double the help he has received.
Equipping communities to become self-sufficient first responders, the Municipality of Dumanjug is set to receive rainwater catchment tanks and clean water filtration systems for 11 barangays – a donation valued at P1.5 million.
Dr. Reynilee Christine Cabilin, department head of the Municipal Health Office of Dumanjug, said, “We are very grateful for this timely aid, especially with Typhoon Carina. This support is crucial for our people, particularly in the mountainous areas, and helps us work towards a healthier Pilipinas and a healthier world.”
Kim Chiu, introduced as BingoPlus’ newest ambassador, commended the Foundation’s efforts: “Beyond entertainment, BingoPlus and I share a passion for community support. Through the BingoPlus Foundation, we are united in our goal to create a better Philippines.” — EDISON JOSEPH GONZALES
