Revered Filipino artists and their masterpieces will take center stage as Casa de Memoria holds Tercero, its third major auction for the year.
To be held on September 26, Saturday, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, the exciting online auction event will feature over 200 European and Filipino pieces that can elevate your home and breathe life to any living space.
Among the anticipated artworks at Tercero is the pair of 20th century fine prints by Spanish-Filipino artist and philanthropist Fernando Zobel de Ayala y Montojo. Titled “La Piedra del Caballo” and “Fragmento del Altar Mayor de la Catedral de Santiago,” the pair of numbered facsimiles traces its provenance back to the sold souvenirs from the Museo de Arte Abstracto Español in Cuenca, Spain.
A great display to have in anyone’s home, “La Piedra del Caballo” is a fine print based on the 1975 original watercolor and ink on paper work in Zóbel’s sketchbook, while “Fragmento del Altar Mayor de la Catedral de Santiago” is his abstract rendition of a section of the Altar Mayor with the pulpit of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. The pair of
Zobel prints (lot 194) are priced with a starting bid of Php 30,000 at Tercero.
Along with Zobel’s fine prints, renowned Father of Philippine Art Nouveau Isabelo Tampinco, known for his architectural works and wood carvings, will also be featured at Tercero with his timeless piece that will instantly add a touch of luxury to your home.
Tampinco’s sculpture — a gladiator soldier in plaster cast — bears a comparable likeness to his work at the National Museum of the Philippines, especially in terms of size and subject. The sculpture is inscribed “D’Arte” at the rear of the shield, and stamped “UNIVERSAL STATUARY CORP. CHICAGO, ILL.” referring to its caster, and mounted on round wooden base. It is up for sale with a starting bid of Php 90,000.
Other specially curated lots to be sold at Tercero include artworks by celebrated artists from the Philippines and different parts of Europe, like the 20th century Spanish lithograph titled “The Creation of Eve” by renowned surrealist artist Salvador Dali which is priced at Php 60,000 to start. In addition, Tercero will offer more of history’s most beautiful antiquities, heirlooms, and objets d’art ranging from paintings, furniture pieces, sculptures, memorabilia, centerpieces, and religious iconographies, among many others.
Part of the auction proceeds will be donated to the Santa Ana Hospital in Manila for the construction and maintenance of an enhanced quarantine facility for medical frontliners and COVID-19 patients.
