‘As Light Travels the Soul’

Visual artist April Lopez has always been fond of her sentimental roots. Self-taught, Lopez’s creative edge lies beneath her humble demeanor, with an endearment for nostalgic memories of living in the province, surrounded by the beauty of flora. Her signature style of wavelike figures takes on forms anew — transitioning from gradients of deep and contrasted tones to soft and bright hues of color, as if touched by an elusive radiance.

“As Light Travels the Soul” is derived from spiritual notions of lightness and serenity. Light passes through the softness of Lopez’s brush strokes, revealing a gradient palette that spans across the ivory canvas, gentle enough not to disrupt the overall harmony of the artist’s composition. With this, the exhibition optimally alters the gallery walls, transforming them into a transcendent extension of the visual experience. The element of light bounces off in every corner, like radiant waves traveling throughout the space and into the soul.

At its core, “As Light Travels the Soul” is a passionate exploration of our connection to the spirit — what sentient notions it can harvest once we allow ourselves to be vulnerable. Looking inward, Lopez recreates her emotional capabilities, transforming them into keepsakes of creative expression.
