The Manila Symphony Junior String Quartet delights audience as they perform music ranging from classics to pop, the third series in the Sunshine Classics.
The quartet is composed of award-winning young performers: violinists Jean Rafaella Marquez and Emanuel John Villarin, violist Lance Morrison Tulagan, and cellist Justin Louis Talusan.
Violinist Jeanne Rafaella Marquez won first prize in the 2018 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) Junior Strings Category. Violinist Emanuel John (EJ) Villarin is a multiple prizewinner at the NAMCYA. The young musician won second place Strings (Violin), Category A-2 in 2013; was second prize winner for the Upper Strings Category in 2018, and in 2020, and won first prize winner Strings (Senior) Category.
A violist, Lance Morrison Tulagan won second prize at the 2020 NAMCYA with the special distinction of being the only violist among six finalists in the competition. Cellist Justin Louis Talusan was awarded an honorable mention in the NAMCYA Junior Strings Category in 2016 and 2018. He is a pioneer member and principal cellist of the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra in 2014 under the direction of Prof. Jeffrey Solares.
