IKEA, the Sweden-based furniture store chain, has partnered with Mober, a Filipino tech-logistics company, for its last mile electric vehicle delivery to reduce carbon emissions.
With online orders now accounting for a significant portion of the Swedish furniture giant’s sales, the delivery platform supports its mission to achieve 100 percent electric vehicle delivery by 2030.
The 66,000-square meter facility in Manila which welcomed customers last November 25, is committed to making all its home deliveries through electric vehicles “as soon as possible and no later than 2030.”
The furniture store chain is working with its transport partners to support this goal. With the first electric vehicle from the delivery platform, for instance, “we lower harmful emissions as we deliver home furnishing solutions from our store to the customers’ homes,” said Georg Platzer, manager at IKEA Philippines.
“This is our small collaborative start to tackle climate change and clean transport,” added Platzer.
“We are excited to be working alongside like-minded suppliers and transport partners like Mober,” said Corinna Schuler, director of sustainability and corporate communication for IKEA Southeast Asia. “Together, we can lower harmful emissions while offering IKEA customers the convenience of home delivery,” she added.
According to Schuler, this is a great example of the kind of collaborative action needed to tackle climate change. “We are urging authorities in all the markets where we operate to help pave the way to a low-carbon economy with positive policies and infrastructure,” she stressed.
“With Mober, we are just getting started on our journey. We are still working toward securing sustainable alternatives to the big trucks we need to deliver large furniture. We hope to see more innovations soon,” Schuler noted.
For his part, Dennis Ng, chief executive officer and founder of Mober, said, “Our goal with our new electric van fleet is to reduce carbon emissions. We are delighted to be collaborating with retail giants like IKEA that are as committed to the reduction of carbon emissions as we are. We look forward to serving the company’s customers with the same level of professionalism and efficiency that we are known for.”
The partnership comes hot on the heels of the delivery platform’s recent launch of the Philippines’ first electric delivery van.
Its electric delivery fleet boasts a service coverage area of 250 km and serves Metro Manila areas, offering transparent pricing and precise tracking of goods.
