THE Asian Hospital and Medical Center has launched its catheterization laboratory (cath lab) which includes the Philips Azurion — the next-generation image-guided therapy platform that lets clinicians easily and confidently perform procedures with a unique user experience, helping them optimize their lab performance and provide superior care.
As patient volumes rise and procedures become more complex, Azurion’s intuitive, outstanding user experience enables doctors to move quickly and confidently through procedures, said Ashwin Chari, Philips Philippines country manager.
Chari said clinical excellence unites with workflow innovation to support clinicians in delivering outstanding patient care, reducing risk of complications and increasing operational efficiency.
The platform has high standards of safety and low radiation exposure that benefits both patients and staff using it.
Dr. Christopher de los Reyes, head of interventional cardiology at Asian Hospital, noted that comparably, the new machine’s updates are diverse and it comes with additional features.
De los Reyes said it gives them the flexibility to perform procedures simultaneously. It also has a number of advantages and advancements in terms of its application.
Given the opportunity to treat more patients, doctors are guided by visual maps through the Dynamic Coronary Roadmap in performing procedures. This helps them locate or navigate the different diseases more carefully and efficiently.
A focus of interest is magnified by more than 20 times “which gives us the accuracy as well as the ability to perform more complicated cases,” de los Reyes added. He said the Dual-Axis Rotational Angiography views all sides of the patient’s heart “and this is more encompassing in terms of where to do our operations.”
Andres Licaros Jr., president and chief executive officer of Asian Hospital, said the hospital supports focus services that are in-demand in the country today.
“What we are providing now with the cath lab systems is the greater assurance that the service is going to be reliable, such that one will never really know when one, two or more patients would come all at the same time and avail of the service,” Licaros said.

Since its global launch in February 2017, over 450,000 patients have been treated in more than 80 countries using the Philips Azurion system.
The Philips image-guided therapy business aims to improve minimally invasive treatments, while its solutions helps treat one patient every second.
