In today’s wellness-focused society, skin and facial care has been one of the most paramount concerns of people. The width and breadth of skin products in the market exemplifies the deep-seated need for everyone to look their best and many skincare regimens have become viral due to their purported benefits.

Acne and whitening products are usually the most popular among people but one skin issue that rarely gets addressed is sensitive skin. This is a skin condition characterized by increased skin reactivity to stimuli that typically wouldn’t cause a reaction in other people, often resulting in symptoms like stinging, burning, itching, dryness, or redness. And while many believe that they have normal skin types, up to 60 pc of the population actual suffer from sensitive skin.

Health, wellness, and beauty brand Watsons aims to shine the spotlight on these different skin concerns with Watsons Skin Solutions, a pop-up event at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium which showcases dermatologist-trusted brands which aims to solve different skin concerns. The company has also partnered with doctors from the Philippine Dermatological Society to provide skin consultations for Watsons customers.

During this pop-up event which will run until October 5, guests will be able to purchase items from brands such as Avene, Physiogel, Celeteque, Neutrogena, Cerave, and more at discounted prices. There are also games and events where customers can win special prizes from different brands.

“We would like to thank Watsons Philippines for this great event and collaborating with us. We appreciate the partnership and Watsons’s efforts in always prioritizing making available high-quality skincare products to the Filipino public,” Dr. Ma. Jasmin Jamora, PDS President said.

Other PDS dermatologists also weighed in on the common skincare myths that many Filipinos believe as well as recommendations for products that can be used regularly. Instead of directly naming specific products, the dermatologists instead shared which active ingredients to look for. Dr. Carrie Legaspi, PDS director for research said that for acne treatment, one active ingredient to look for is Benzoyl Peroxide, which works as an antiseptic to reduce the number of germs and bacteria on the surface of the skin.

For Dr. Jamora, regular retinol use can help with oily skin and fine lines. However, this must be paired with regular moisturizer and sunscreen use as retinol can lead to skin sensitivity.

Meanwhile, Dr. Winlove Mojica, PDS director for human resources cautioned against the purchase of isotretinoin in online stores. He shared that while this is a powerful ingredient to combat acne, it also has severe side effects. Because of this, only licensed dermatologists are allowed to issue a prescription for it.
