Enjoying the sweet month of May with no-bake desserts

THERE are some upsides to being confined at home during these uncertain times. Families get to spend more time together and take part in activities such as DIY projects, gardening, arts and craft, and making delicious food.

As they say, “there’s always room for dessert”, so this month of May, as TLC celebrates Bakelicious, featuring four programs that focus on the delicious art of baking. You can start small with some no-bake desserts below that you can do with the whole family that only require standard kitchen appliances and a maximum of five easy-to-access local ingredients.

Refrigerator cakes are one of the easiest desserts to make. For as long as you have the three basic ingredients, which are all-purpose cream, condensed milk, and graham crackers, there’s so much that you can come up with. Refrigerator cakes are basically just made up of your mixture of all-purpose crí¨me and condensed milk in between layers of graham topped with anything that ranges from cookies to fresh fruits. Put it in the refrigerator until it is chilled or firm, and it is ready to be served.

Dessert bites are also made using the three aforementioned basic ingredients, with the addition of marshmallows and cookie crumbs or sprinkles. Just crush the graham crackers finely and mix it together with all-purpose crí¨me and condensed milk, coat marshmallows with this mixture until you create balls, then cover it with cookie crumbs or sprinkles, pop it in the refrigerator until it is chilled or firm.

Chocolate-covered fruits only require these three ingredients: chocolate, shortening, and the fruit of your choice. Simply melt the chocolate and shortening in a microwave and stir until it is smooth, cover your chosen fruit in the mixture and add toppings as desired, then freeze before serving.

Craving for something more savory? All you need is some pancake mix and the filling of your choice, which can range from cookies to candy bars or even fruits. Simply dip this in your pancake mix until fully covered and fry until golden brown.
