Food and drink pairings always strive to create an experience that is more than just the sum of their parts, with the different flavors synergizing to highlight and accentuate the different characteristics of each beverage and food item. And while most people associate wine with food pairings, beer also works extremely well in these scenarios.
To highlight this, San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) has partnered with critically acclaimed New York steakhouse Wolfgang’s Steakhouse by Wolfgang Zweiner to serve up a perfect pairing of beef and brew.
Dubbed “What’s Your Beef? A Four-Hands Happy Hour Special”, the offering features fine USDA Prime Black Angus beef dishes curated by Chef Chris Oronce and Chef Ed Bugia to go along with satisfying taste of San Miguel Premium Beers – San Miguel Premium All-Malt, San Miguel Super Dry, San Miguel Cerveza Negra, and San Miguel Cerveza Blanca, as well as special beer-based cocktails using SMB’s premium beer line.
Two sets are being offered in this collaboration: Set A, available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and Set B, available Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
For starters, each set serves up a succulent Smash Burger with sides of duck fat truffle fries, smoked onion rings, and dill pickles. One set offers a line-up of Bistek Style Tataki, Bitterballen with Mechado-style Sauce, and Burger Steak Wolfgang Style.
The other set offers Sinuglaw, Pinoy Barbeque Skewers, and Manila Pares. All dishes are prepared using Wolfgang’s signature dry-aged USDA Prime Black Angus beef.
Capping off each set is a dessert inspired by local sorbetes: an Ice Cream Sundae with three flavors — ube, mango, and avocado — topped with chocolate covered bacon and Wolfgang’s signature “schlag”. Chef Ed shared that the use of Filipino flavors was a deliberate decision with the aim of echoing the concept of Filipino pulutan.
Each dish can be paired with any of San Miguel’s Premium Beer brands, from the full-flavored European-style lager – San Miguel Premium All-Malt, the premium lager brewed with 100 percent aroma hops from Hallertau, Garmany – San Miguel Super Dry, the full-bodied dark lager with hints of caramel, coffee, and chocolate – San Miguel Cerveza Negra, to the the Belgian-style wheat-ale brewed with citrus, coriander, and spices – San Miguel Cerveza Blanca. For those who want something different, there are also the 3 beer-based cocktails that can be enjoyed. A beer-based version of the Americano which is a variation of the classic Negroni, a beer Margarita, and an Espresso Martini fortified with some Cerveza Negra.
“What’s Your Beef? A Four-Hands Happy Hour Special” is available from Monday to Saturday between 11a.m. to 10 p.m. at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse branches at The Podium in Ortigas Center, at One Bonifacio High Street in Bonifacio Global City, and at the Newport Mall in Newport World Resorts.
