JAPANESE fashion brand Uniqlo has been known to create works and fashion lines that highlights pop culture, both past and present. However, the brand is also never shy about teaming up with respected fashion designers to create pieces that are both stylish yet accessible to the public.
Uniqlo has partnered with British designer JW Anderson in the past and the newest Fall/Winter 2019 collection is the 4th collaboration line between the two. Drawing inspiration from the town of St. Ives in Cornwall, England, which is known for its seamless blend of art and nature, this new LifeWear offering fuses traditional British elements with the modern designs of JW Anderson.
“Like all the seasons I’ve done with Uniqlo, it’s always interesting to see the collection evolve through meetings with the teams and see it become this amalgamation of LifeWear and JW Anderson. I liked this idea of pops of color to make the heritage British patterns and colors feel a bit more modern. Contrasting pops of color and tartan are very present,” Jonathan Anderson said about the launch of the new collection.
Inspired from his childhood memories, traditional British patterns such as tartans and warm Nordic designs are the main patterns for outerwear, skirts, innerwear, and accessories. Patterns with a classic feel are adorned with borderlines and fringes to emulate the playful character of the JW Anderson brand.
The fourth season of this collaboration again includes the reversible items that have become a collaboration standard. New this season are down jackets and coats with splashes of vivid yellows and greens over an earthy base. Down jackets for both men and women feature neutral and classic tones on the outside, with contrasting colors on the inside, which are some of Jonathan’s favorite items.
HEATTECH Warm Easy Pants are lined with HEATTECH fleece, with exceedingly practical features including a webbing belt that can be easily adjusted with one hand and side pockets accented with colorful bungee cords. Women’s AIRism leggings and half-zip tees prevent stuffiness and maintain comfort even in winter, with striking triple color borderline designs that give edgy accents to traditional collection items.
