Global couture finds a sustainable spin through online trend

A trending online challenge seeks to bring a contemporary and playful approach to the groundbreaking magazine covers and head-turning haute couture fashion statements from the days of Audrey Hepburn and Princess Diana.

Coined as #FDMRECOUTURE, the trend which originated from the students of the Fashion Design and Merchandising Program of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts seeks to test their creativity and resourcefulness as they recreate iconic fashion getups using day-to-day objects found within the four walls of their homes.

This served as a platform for the promising student-artists to channel their ingenuity as they utilized and upcycled used or unconventional household finds from latex balloons and outdated glossies to old curtains, discarded fabrics and applique laces.

The activity likewise allowed the hopeful designers to exemplify the skills they had honed from their classes and workshops, from fabric manipulation to exploration of innovative techniques, with sustainability in mind.

The best pieces among the entries will be given internship opportunities from global platform Humble Sustainability and artisanal brand Beatriz Accessories. Tokens from importer and distributor Manila Fashion Supplies and thread production company Manila Bay Threads will likewise be awarded.

The student with the best-designed recreation will be granted with a project collaboration with Humble Sustainability as well as a portable machine from Triple K Sewing Machines.
