Lav Diaz wins best director in Venice Orizzonti

Filipino director Lavrente Diaz wins best director at the Venice Orizzonti for his film, “Lahi, Hayop” (“Genus Pan”).

The top prize in the “Horizons” competition went to Iranian Ahmed Bahrami’s “Wasteland.”

Diaz’ “Ang Babaeng Humayo” (“The Woman Who Left”), starring Charo Santos and John Lloyd Cruz, was the recipient of the Venice film fest’s highest prize, the Golden Lion Award, in 2016. His film, “Melancholia” (2008), was adjudged best film at the Venice Horizons Award, while the feature, “Kagadanan sa banwaan ning mga engkanto” (“Death in the Land of Encantos”) (2007) was given the special mention award at the Venice Film Festival in 2007.
