Art made accessible

For many Filipinos, the art world can be an intimidating scene. Pieces that are sold at multi-million pesos can grab headlines and notable artists are revered and respected.

However, art is meant to be enjoyed by all and with Art in Aura: Visions Made Visible, the open exhibit allows mall goers to come close and personal with a variety of artworks down in different mediums.

A partnership program by SM Malls alongside the Galerie Francesca Group and Sunshine place, the 10-day exhibit at the upper ground floor atrium of SM Aura in Bonifacio Global City showcases works from up-and-coming artists as well as prints from well-known modern masters until August 24.

“This is our second year of hosting this special exhibition wherein SM would like to offer and showcase art for everyone. We are very privileged and very honored to host this exhibition again wherein we are able to present fine art to the general public,” Galerie Francesca Group managing director Susanne Tiausas said.

Celebrating its 20th year, Galerie Francesca has long been a steadfast champion of Filipino artistry. The group curates exhibitions that fuse traditional Filipino techniques with contemporary approaches, featuring talents across painting, sculpture, photography, and multimedia installations.

Its lineup for Art in Aura includes nearly 35 artists such as Alberto Achorez, Bell Sison, Helena Alegre, Julie Gil, Luin Veluz, and many more.

“There is a notion that art is only for the rich, it can be expensive, or unaffordable. But showing artworks in the heart of the biggest malls showcases that art is really for everyone to appreciate. That art is there to evoke emotion from the viewer, whatever that emotion would be. For this exhibition, SM requested that we feature upcoming and emerging artists and other forms of art. We have new media art alongside paintings, sculptures, and photographs,” Tiausas said.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Place is a multi-service recreation center dedicated to wellness, creativity, and connection. It offers engaging programs for all ages, with a special focus on seniors and caregivers. Its art classes include intermediate and advanced art, acrylic painting for kids and beginners, porcelain painting, and decoupage, alongside dance, fitness, therapy, and wellness programs.

Proceeds from Sunshine Place’s art sales during the event will benefit the National Center for Mental Health.

The lineup includes nearly 35 artists from its beginner art classes such as Amanda Bree Atayde, Eric Epe, Lolita Feliciano, Aurora Kho, Isabel Chua, and more; as well as from its advanced classes, Camille Eleanor Marayg, Connie Cadelina, Joyce Ashworth, Rosy Adriano, Victoria Lopez, and others.

As one of the highlights of SM Aura’s ongoing initiative to spotlight Filipino artistry, Art in Aura offers a platform where renowned and local talents can exhibit and sell their works, connect with new audiences, and contribute to a thriving creative community. This is more than an art fair. It is a celebration of imagination, passion, and the skill of Filipino artists.
