Today’s vibrant Philippine art scene was built on the shoulders of giants over the course of several decades. And while the art scene has a bright future ahead, being able to see and pay tribute to the masters who paved the way is an honor and a privilege afforded to few. Galerie Stephanie aims to showcase their works to a wider audience by exhibiting selected works from some of the greatest names in Philippine visual art.

Galerie Stephanie, in partnership with Shangri-la Plaza, proudly presents In the Shadow of Great Light: An Exhibition of Works by Philippine National Artists, a landmark exhibition celebrating the extraordinary creative legacies that have shaped Philippine art and culture.

The East Atrium will transform into an immersive space that brings together rarely seen and widely celebrated works by the country’s National Artists for Visual Arts until August 31. The exhibition is curated by Ricky Francisco, Director of Fundacion Sansó, ensuring a presentation that pays homage to the mastery and vision of these cultural icons.

In the Shadow of Great Light aims to honor the enduring influence of the National Artists—not only as masters of their craft but also as mentors, innovators, and storytellers whose works continue to inspire future generations. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to witness pieces that have shaped the nation’s visual history, some loaned from private collections and artist estates, and others exhibited publicly for the first time. Some of the works included are those by Benedicto Cabrera, Arturo Luz, Jerry Elizalde Navarro, Vicente Manansala, Carlos “Botong” Francisco, and Victorio Edades.
