Of all the steamy scenes Lovi Poe has done on screen, she is still hard-pressed to answer the question what’s her fantasy love scene? The stunning actress turned unexpectedly shy when asked about it during a recent sit-down with the press.
“I’m really, honestly super shy when it comes to this things,” she admitted, blushing, “I’ve done it many times pero parang the the best thing that i can say is when I read a book, then meron na ganon, dun ako nakaka- imagine lang.”
Even while growing up, her mom would cover her eyes during scenes that were for adults only, and, even now, she still finds myself averting her eyes during kissing scenes.
Luckily, Lovi’s British husband, producer Monty Blencowe, understands the demands of the craft. “He knows it’s part of the story. It’s work,” she explained. “Anyone married to an actor has to understand that. I’m grateful he’s that for me.”
Starring in “Guilty Pleasure,” a courtroom drama produced by Regal Entertainment and her very own C’est Lovi Productions, Lovi takes on the role of a lawyer for the first time. As Alexis, she spars with actors JM de Guzman and Jameson Blake, both in and out of the courtroom.
“Nag enjoy ako with JM; he’s a great guy,” she said. “Ang husay niya umarte. Sabi ko nga, dinadaan lang tayo sa mata ni JM – pumasok lang siya, tumingin tapos the end. Alam mo yan? Parang hindi niya kailangan ng salita, umaarte na ‘yung mata nya, so tapos! Sobrang gaan sa set lahat. I had fun, Sabi ko nga, bitin, sana may Part 2,” she added.
She has intimate scenes with JM and Jameson, but the encounters are as different as night and day.
“The scene with JM—may ice! Direk Connie [Macatuno] wanted to show that he’s different, so we used ice. With Jameson, it was more sweet, romantic, and light.”
Despite her polished performances, Lovi confessed that memorizing her long legal lines was a challenge. “I started preparing months in advance. It was a lot of pressure, but it paid off. Thankfully, we finished most of my scenes in one take.”
Reflecting on the film, Lovi couldn’t help but highlight her reunion with director Connie Macatuno, with whom she worked on Malaya in 2020. “Direk Connie is so meticulous. She knows exactly what she wants, and she really brings out the best in each actor. Sobrang tutok siya sa amin.”
Another aspect that makes Guilty Pleasure stand out is its visual homage to Filipino culture. Director Connie, an advocate for local weaves, ensured that Lovi, JM, and Jameson donned stunning Filipino artwear. And as a longtime Bench endorser, Lovi is a big supporter of Filipino design.
“I love local designs, especially ‘yung modern spins on terno and barong. We really need to push harder to showcase our culture,” she said proudly.
At the heart of it, “Guilty Pleasure,” penned by Noreen Capili, isn’t just about courtroom drama — it’s about boundaries, abuse, and trust, topics that feel timely and relevant. “This film has substance, and I hope it sparks conversations,” Lovi emphasized.
“Guilty Pleasure” is opening in theaters nationwide starting October 16.
