ON the heels of the salary increase and additional allowance being approved for government employees, the Federation of Free Workers (FFW) yesterday called on Malacañang to provide the same for private sector workers.

In a statement, FFW President Sonny Matula said there is a need to provide the necessary wage adjustment for workers in the private sector, stressing that the high prices of commodities are sparing no one.

“The disparity in wage levels across the country needs to be addressed, as the cost of living does not vary significantly,” said Matula.

“Hopefully, all workers will enjoy wage increases nationwide, ensuring equitable treatment for all workers,” he added.

He said this can be done by advocating for the legislated wage increase of P150 across the board in the private sector.

“We remain committed to advocating for fair wages and improved working conditions for all employees, regardless of their position or employment status,” said Matula.

FFW issued the statement after President Marcos Jr. signed the order for government workers’ salary increase and additional allowance last Friday.

The order states that the wage hike is being approved due to “prevailing economic circumstances, including the erosion of purchasing power due to inflation.”

FFW said the government move is laudable and will help public sector workers.

“This positive development is a step towards ensuring fair compensation for public servants,” said Matula.
