Semiconductors take the stage in Malaysia this May
SEMICON Southeast Asia 2024, held from May 28-30 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, showcased the region’s burgeoning semiconductor industry and its increasing significance in the global supply chain. With over 500 exhibiting companies and more than 1,000 booths, the event doubled participation from the previous year, highlighting the growing interest and investment in Southeast Asia.
The conference theme, “Boosting Agility and Resiliency of the Global Electronics Supply Chain,” reflected the industry’s focus on adapting to dynamic market conditions and ensuring a stable supply of essential components. Southeast Asia, with its US$200 billion in chip exports, growing manufacturing capabilities, supportive government policies, and skilled workforce, is poised to play a pivotal role in achieving these goals.
Key highlights of the event includes:
- Regional Pavilions: Showcasing leading semiconductor regions like China, Europe, Malaysia, Netherlands, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.
- New Programs: Introducing initiatives such as the Regional Human Resource Forum, Tech IDOL Competition, Malaysia Sourcing Pavilion, Chiplet and Heterogeneous Integration Summit, and INVEST@Southeast Asia.
- Diverse Forums: Covering a wide range of topics, including Market and Industry Trends, Sustainability, Chiplet and Heterogeneous Integration Summit, Advanced Product Testing Forum, and Smart Initiatives.
- CxO Summit: Focused on boosting agility and resiliency in the global electronics supply chain in Southeast Asia.
Workforce Development: Featuring a career fair and expert presentations to address the growing demand for skilled professionals.
SEMICON Southeast Asia 2024 was supported by strategic partnerships with key organizations like Invest Selangor, MATRADE, MITI, and MIDA. The event provided a platform for industry stakeholders to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and explore opportunities for innovation and growth in the region’s semiconductor sector.
The Malaysian government expressed its commitment to strengthening the country’s position in the global E&E value chain, emphasizing sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness.
