Nokia wants PH prepped for Industry 4.0, ready with 5G push

THE pace of digital transformation in the Philippines can be quickened, proportional to the speed by which enterprises adopt and adapt to 5G trends and developments. Seen as the next generation of connectivity, Nokia executives at a recent roundtable said that 5G will accelerate Filipino enterprises’ digital transformation helping sustain the nation’s growth during the shift to Industry 4.0 (I.4.0).

“The Philippines is a pioneer in 5G development, and is one of the most exciting countries in the Southeast Asia region today as it continues to expand the nationwide 5G deployment,” Carlos Reyes, Head of Nokia Philippines said. The Nokia executive also revealed key insights to enable 5G momentum in the country and underscored its commitment to advancing the nation’s Industry 4.0 roadmap.

“We have a long history of working in the Philippines to accelerate digital transformation for businesses and the community, and we remain committed to delivering greater operational productivity and efficiency through our next generation-communication technology,” Reyes pointed out emphasizing how it is critical “more than ever before” for enterprises to accelerate the adoption of 5G technologies “to unlock new opportunities and boost the Philippines’ economy.”

Under the new Marcos Jr. administration, digitalization of many aspects of government–agriculture, education, enterprises, health, police work, and even penology has been identified as priority areas for digitalization. The rapid move to bring key technologies is crucial to improving public services delivery. Nokia gave, as an example, how quickly companies reacted to the increasing digital demands exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic with a government policy accelerating the nation’s strategy towards I.4.0.

The Philippines was one of the earliest Southeast Asian nations to take a lead in 5G deployment. 5G is a key enabler for the Philippines’ digital transformation journey, and the next generation in connectivity will empower the country’s enterprises and organizations to prepare for digitalization.
