Schneider Electric aims to upskill 6,500 Filipino students

SCHNEIDER Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, has partnered with the Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) to support Filipino students enrolled in Technical Vocational Institutions (TVIs) in Marawi and in Batangas State University.

The project, entitled EmPOWER, aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the electrical and mechanical sector by providing partner institutions with cutting-edge electrical equipment and mentorship.

Schneider Electric’s CSR project comes at a crucial time as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) seeks to train 1.8 million Filipinos in tech-voc courses for 2023. With the rise in enrollment in technical courses, educational institutions need to improve their programs and facilities to keep up with growing national and global demands for skilled workers.

For Marawi TVIs, which offer short-term tech voc courses, the EmPOWER project is funded by both Schneider Electric Foundation and the German finance institution, DEG. The TVIs will receive PHP10M worth of Schneider Electric equipment and mentorship from its pool of experts.

On the other hand, Batangas State University, an engineering university, will integrate the donated equipment into their existing higher education courses. Schneider Electric has committed to donate equipment for electrical hazard cases, solar energy, and industrial automation to the university. The initiative aims to support the advancement of the university’s engineering and mechanical programs.

The emPOWER project is aligned with Schneider Electric Foundation’s 2025 global commitment of training 1,000,000 individuals on energy management. This is in line with the brand’s core mantra, Life is On, which aims to educate everyone to make use of their energy and resources efficiently. Through this collaboration, Schneider Electric is fostering learning, upskilling, and development of the younger generation to aid in the global shift to digital transformation.

“We are thrilled be able to lend Schneider Electric’s expertise and support to upskill Filipino students and prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow’s workforce,” said Atty. Norman Ocana III, Government Affairs and Corporate Citizenship Head at Schneider Electric Philippines. “This project underscores our commitment to empowering the next generation with the necessary skills and knowledge to take lead in the digital transformation of the country. By providing state-of-the-art equipment as well as mentorship from our own experts, we hope to create a lasting impact on the lives of these students and contribute to the sustainable development of the Philippines.”
