Globe cracks down on spam, scam SMS
Globe, the Philippines’ leading mobile provider, has ramped up its fight against cybercrime. In the first quarter of 2024, Globe blacklisted 36,549 SIMs from other networks linked to spam and scam SMS — a 62% increase from the same period last year. Additionally, 841 Globe SIMs were deactivated for similar offenses, marking a 30% year-on-year rise.
“We won’t tolerate SIMs that compromise our customers’ security,” said Anton Bonifacio, Globe’s Chief Information Security Officer. “These deactivations show our commitment to combatting cybersecurity threats.”
Globe detects abusive SIMs through monitoring systems and its Stop Spam portal, where customers can report suspicious messages. The company urges users to stay vigilant, avoid unfamiliar links, and not share personal information or OTPs.
Globe’s anti-fraud efforts include tech upgrades, partnerships with other telcos, banks, retailers, and government agencies. This collaboration is key to staying ahead of evolving threats.
Globe works with groups like the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) to crack down on fraudsters. Customers can help by reporting fraud via Globe’s Stop Spam portal or the PNP ACG hotline (0968 867 4302).
Globe also warns users about scams on messaging apps and through spoofing, emphasizing the need for constant vigilance.

MVRK Simulations, ROC PH win in DTI contest
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its Competitiveness and Innovation Group and Launchgarage, has recognized innovative startups in the creative sector.
The winners of the Incubation, Development, and Entrepreneurial Assistance (IDEA) and Accelerating Development, Valuation, and Corporate Entrepreneurship (ADVanCE) for Creatives Programs were announced at the Demo Day on April 15, 2024.
MVRK Simulations, which creates gamified workforce training simulations, won the IDEA program and a P75,000 pitch prize. ROC PH, with its Marketing-as-a-Service platform for MSMEs, took home the ADVanCE program’s top prize of P100,000.
Other notable IDEA participants included Produkto PH, Transcend Studios Inc., and Kwentoon. The ADVanCE program featured KikoMonster Creative Studio, Bihasa, AniMattify, and Bentamo.
