Snowflake and Unravel Carbon partnership announced
SNOWFLAKE, announced its collaboration with climate technology startup Unravel Carbon to empower organizations with actionable decarbonization insights. The announcement was made in a virtual media briefing last week.
Unravel Carbon has chosen Snowflake’s Data Cloud to integrate their emissions inventory databases and decarbonization solutions, enabling companies to become more climate conscious.
Unravel Carbon, based in Singapore, aims to assist large and medium-sized companies in tracking and reducing their carbon emissions. Through their AI-powered carbon decarbonization platform, they convert accounting information into comprehensive supply chain carbon insights and provide climate solutions towards achieving net-zero emissions. Their clientele includes prominent organizations such as Mercedes Benz, Millennium & Copthorne Hotels, Global Fashion Group, and the central bank of Singapore, spanning 25 countries.
Grace Sai, co-founder and CEO of Unravel Carbon, expressed her concerns about the devastating effects of global warming and the urgency to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. She emphasized the need to minimize the impact on the planet for future generations. Given that Asia accounts for 60% of global emissions, Unravel Carbon’s goal is to enable companies to measure, track, reduce, and report their carbon emissions swiftly and at scale.
Despite the urgency, Unravel Carbon discovered that only a small fraction of companies worldwide (10,000 out of 400 million) are measuring their carbon footprints. To address this gap and facilitate decarbonization efforts, Unravel Carbon sought a platform that is user-friendly, scalable, and efficient. They chose Snowflake to unify their datasets, allowing customers to dedicate more time to decarbonization instead of measuring their carbon footprint. Unlike traditional approaches that require 6 to 9 months of manual consulting work, Unravel Carbon’s customers can now report their carbon footprint within minutes, if not seconds, using Snowflake’s Data Cloud.
Grace emphasized that Unravel Carbon selected Snowflake due to their commitment to building data-driven solutions and operations with minimal environmental impact. By utilizing Snowflake’s platform, Unravel Carbon can quickly identify emission hotspots, release fewer carbon emissions compared to legacy solutions, and leverage structured and unstructured data from various sources to drive effective decarbonization initiatives.
Since integrating Snowflake’s solutions, Unravel Carbon has witnessed significant improvements in data-driven, climate-aware decision-making. They are also planning to establish the world’s largest repository for every service on Snowflake to contribute to the low carbon economy.
Snowflake views sustainability as a “Data Problem” and aims to address these challenges through its Data Cloud platform capabilities. Sanjay Deshmukh, Senior Regional Vice President, ASEAN and India at Snowflake, expressed their commitment to being a leader in solving data and business challenges for the greater good. They are excited about collaborating with Unravel Carbon on this journey, utilizing data, data analytics, and AI for the benefit of helping more companies across the Asia Pacific region become more sustainable.
