THE new determinant of smartphone value is not just processing power anymore. With the advent of Snapdragon simultaneously being used in many devices, it is how the phone’s architecture allows the processor to maximize data crunching, accurate screen color, and power management, that makes the smartphone smarter for its users.
According to executives of realme present at the intimate media launch, the latest generation realme 9i has power efficiency as one of its core strengths. This aside from its 90Hz ultra-smooth, 6.6-inch IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels. In the realm of phones that are expected to be used by casual gamers and selfie buffs, the phone’s expansive VRAM capabilities gives it a definite edge. No price has yet been released as of the media conference, but using a range of prices from China to India, the phone should range from P10K to a high of P12K.
Now that is a good price if one considers what one gets.
It features Qualcomm’s latest 4G 6nm processor Snapdragon 680–which can be described as the benchmark of entertainment-oriented devices be it video streaming, audio or gaming. The chip also works perfectly with the realme 9i’s 5000 mAh battery and 33W Dart Charge system that can charge the battery from empty to 100 percent in about 70 minutes. Since the chip is oriented for maximum power management, the whole system consumes 62 percent less power and affords 46 percent more. This increase in performance is due to the technological leap to the 6nn processor from the 12nm standard.
Since I have no phone to test this, I am relying on older versions of realme to bench test earlier devices versus the 680’s claim. The reliability factor if over 25 percent in most functions but the battery can work almost endlessly–estimating up to a possible total of 12 hours audio playback time and maybe 6 to 8 hours of video playback time, which in my experience may be about 8 to 10 hours of casual gaming time. These are all desktop calculations benchmarking on the previous chip running Android 11 which is the current operating system with no overlay.
“We know that with the ever-evolving needs of today’s consumers, battery life and power efficiency remain of utmost importance. With our latest Number Series smartphone line-up, we are committed to bring the best all-around tech companions to every Filipino,” Austine Huang, realme Philippines’ VP for Marketing said.
These evolving needs aside from longer battery include camera power is comparable to flagship phones, to help users capture moments with the best quality. It also features a high-resolution 50MP AI Triple Camera which houses three lenses: a 50MP ultra-high pixel main camera, a 2MP secondary black, and white lens, and a 2MP 4cm ultra-close Macro Lens. This camera set-up allows users to stretch their creativity and take stunning photographs with every shot. It also comes with trendy photography functions such as Portrait Mode and a Nightscape filter called Cosmopolitan allowing for a surreal visual experience.
The 90Hz Ultra Smooth Display supports five refresh rates that adjust depending on the user’s current activity to extend battery life for smoother and longer-lasting use.
All these features and more are housed in one stylish package that carries realme’s first Stereo Prism Design. Inspired by light and the prisms it creates with its refractions, the exterior presents a dynamic effect of three-dimensional light and shadow transformation. It is available in two color options: Prism Blue and Prism Black
